5 Ways Great Ed Builds Grassroots Momentum

As legislative session has wrapped, we’re closing out this season with a reminder of how grassroots power is vital in supporting a campaign. Great Education Colorado hosted the Get it Done! Advocacy Day with 40 Action Ambassadors who truly were remarkable and essential in getting in contact with legislators, explaining the Colorado Adequacy Studies and protecting public education.

  1. Accessible and Consistent Meetings:

Great Education Colorado uses Zoom as the online platform for hosting our monthly Advocates Network Meetings. With registrants from all across the state logging in virtually, we provide multiple reminders prior to the meeting and helpful tips for joining. If you’re reading this, why not register for our upcoming meeting? It’s only an hour and you receive a video recap if you register whether you attend or not! You can also view the future registrations or meeting recordings and access slides from our webpage.

  1. Honesty in the Journey

Organizations in operation for over 20 years, must be doing something right, RIGHT? You can take it from us, it is no easy feat and requires a nimble minded staff, responsive leadership along with commitment to the vision. Our honest approach at Great Education Colorado, goes beyond the obvious non-profit transparencies (–this work takes funding, time and not so obvious wins that may come far and few between–) and includes our sometimes WEEKLY updates in the world of legislation, the hard and fast FAQs/Statistics that are often not always easy to grapple with as a constituent or representative doing their best to advocate for even more financial investment in public education. Sign up for our Newsletter to stay in the know.

  1. Collaboration

Connecting with not so obvious partners, creating spaces where silos and voids are abhorrent or signing on as an endorser of an issue, Great Education Colorado continues to be present in and supportive of all the efforts where public education is impacted. Consider adding your organization to the Every Student Welcome Network or at least signing the pledge to “vote and act to ensure that EVERY student in my district and in Colorado feels welcome in their public school!”

  1. Staying in the Know

Whether asking for or creating space to incorporate youth input, driving through mountain or rural communities to host an in person presentation on school funding, or simply attending community events, we are ears to the ground and NOT gatekeepers. Being in the know is not always easy especially when you have to accept that you DIDN’T know something. Through conversations, sharing stories on social media and joining other organizational newsletters, we give space during our staff meetings to share what the word is in the mile high.

  1. Creative Ways to fundraise

Sponsoring ten burritos for our Advocacy Day went A LONG way during our planning for the most recent Get it Done event at the state capitol. Opportunities to We are also launching a unique campaign for anyone to support the efforts in building up Action Ambassadors. Get it done with a stylish branded T-shirt or Hoodie that will enable local Action Ambassadors to coordinate local efforts standing up for public education.
