This is what Getting it done Looks Like

On April 16, Great Ed hosted our first “Get It Done” Advocacy Day, with the goal of getting the General Assembly to commit to full and fair funding of Colorado’s public schools.

Nailed it.

On that day, thanks to the leadership of the sponsor, Senator Cathy Kipp, the Senate overwhelmingly passed  S.J.Res.25-021, which commits the General Assembly to creating a plan that will implement the recommendations of the state-commissioned Public School Funding Adequacy Studies.

Notably, the vote was bipartisan, reflecting the broad understanding that Colorado can and must do right by all its students. Only five senators opposed the resolution: Senators Baisley, Liston, Lundeen, R. Pelton, and Rich. Twenty senators signed on as cosponsors, including Senator Jeff Bridges, whose comments framed the work ahead of us.  (Watch the video starting at 1:04:28).

Senators applauded participants for their advocacy, just minutes before the bipartisan passage of S.J.Res.25-021 (committing the General Assembly to implement the recommendations of the Public School Funding Adequacy Studies commissioned by the state).

Participants lobbied their representatives, urging them to pass the Resolution when it comes to the House floor.

Representatives of the Colorado Fiscal Institute and Young Aspiring Americans for Social and Political Activism (YAASPA) provided the advocates with doses of reality and hope.

CFI presentation explained TABOR, taxes, public education funding and teacher pay in 12 minutes! What a feat!
