In a victory for public education in Colorado, voters have defeated Amendment 80. Public education voters like you realized that Amendment 80 for what it was – a measure that would open the floodgates to mass privatization – and you rejected it at the ballot.
Over the past few months, you have rallied together to text, call, knock doors, and spread the word about this harmful measure. Amendment 80’s defeat sends a clear message: Public education supporters aren’t fooled, and they’re more ready than ever to tackle the challenges that lay ahead. Thanks to your hard work and dedication, we can continue the fight for an adequate, equitable, and sustainable public education system without the looming threat of mass privatization.
From the bottom of our hearts, and on behalf of the students of Colorado, thank you.
While Amendment 80’s defeat doesn’t change existing policy or create new ones, it gives us a green light to tackle other pressing issues. In just a few short weeks, the results of the school finance adequacy study will be available to the public, and it is our job to communicate them to the legislature and make concrete recommendations for the future. This challenge would have been far more difficult if Amendment 80 had passed.
Thank you again. With your continued support, we will see the day when every Colorado student – regardless of their zip code, learning needs, language, identities, or the color of their skin – graduates prepared to lead their best life.
