If We Had Enough Money
By: Caris Schildt
I walk through the halls and look
At all of the damaged things around.
An intercom that I cannot understand,
Bathrooms that are barely functioning,
Sinks that spray you,
And programs that are unfunded.
Why is it that public schools do not get
recognized?
One short answer to that question…
NOT ENOUGH MONEY.
If my school had enough money to fix
Everything broken,
It would make life so much easier.
Teachers that greet you with a smile when
you walk into class,
A lunch that looks appetizing,
And a place that makes everyone feel safe;
IF WE HAD ENOUGH MONEY.
When I say my school’s name, all people think about
Is how ghetto it must be there.
If we had the proper funding, I would not have to hear
That said about our school for a long time;
IF WE HAD ENOUGH MONEY.
With the right learning tools
No kid would feel “stupid” to not know the answer to
A question.
No one kid is above another,
In this one small school that just needs a little love.
I could play basketball with not having to wear
One of the boy’s team jerseys,
We could have an amazing set for the school play.
We could be this big, beautiful, and amazing school;
IF WE HAD ENOUGH MONEY.
