Great Education Colorado is honored to welcome award-winning music educator Jimmy Day as the guest moderator of our youth panel at the 15th Annual Great Education Colorado Luncheon.
Join us on October 9 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Denver Art Museum for an inspiring conversation that centers student voices and celebrates public education.
Originally from Detroit, Jimmy Day earned a Bachelor of Science in Music from Tennessee State University and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Trevecca Nazarene University. Now in his 18th year as a music educator, he has taught in Memphis, Nashville, and Aurora Public Schools. He currently serves as the instrumental music instructor at Charles Burrell K-8, a teacher mentor, and the K-8 music teacher leader on the APS Music Advisory Committee.
In 2023, Day made history as Colorado’s first music educator and first Black male teacher to be named Colorado Teacher of the Year. He has also received the Education Champion Award from the Colorado Black Caucus of School Board Directors and the “Community First” recognition from the Best Economic Success Trust.
We look forward to welcoming Jimmy Day and hearing the thoughtful, powerful perspectives of the young people joining this year’s panel.
