A statement of endorsements shared by the districts:
“Colorado’s public schools are being asked to do more than ever, yet too many
districts, particularly small and rural ones, struggle to attract and retain quality teachers,
provide competitive salaries, maintain essential programs, and meet the increasingly
complex needs of students.
Amendment 87 offers Colorado an opportunity to make a significant, sustained
investment in K–12 education while reducing income taxes for 97% of taxpayers. By
replacing Colorado’s flat income tax with a graduated structure, the measure is
expected to generate roughly $2 billion in additional state revenue in its first full year, with those new dollars required to supplement, not replace, existing funding for K–12
education, health care, and early childhood education.
Strong public schools are the foundation of strong communities and a strong
Colorado economy. Amendment 87 asks those with the greatest financial capacity to contribute more while providing tax relief to most Coloradans and generating much-
needed resources to give every child, regardless of ZIP code, access to outstanding public education opportunities.
We, the Superintendents of the San Luis Valley’s 14 public school districts, are unified in asking you to vote yes on Amendment 87.
